🎱 Ultimate Pool League

Key Rules You Should Know

UPL is built on fast, fair, and fun gameplay. Here’s what you need to know before your first match.

⏱ Match & Shot Clock

  • 30-minute match clock for each match
  • 30-second shot clock per turn (with 1 extension per rack)
  • Keeps matches moving and nights on schedule

👥 Teams & Rosters

  • 5 players play each match night (up to 8 players can be on the roster)
  • Must play at least 1 player with a UPscore of 450 or under each week
  • Can only have two players rated 600+, and only one rated 700+ per night
  • Subs can be added mid-season (roster changes allowed until Week 7 of Session 3

  • 8-Ball Teams
  • 10-Ball Teams (coming soon)
  • Singles & Fast 8 Chase (coming soon)
  • All formats use UPscore rating caps and follow UPL official rules

🧠 UPscore & Fair Play

  • Every player has a UPscore rating based on performance.
  • Teams must stay within rating caps each week.
  • Built-in handicap system levels the playing field so every match feels competitive.

🏆 Scoring

  • +5 points for a match win
  • Bonus points for each game won beyond any starting handicap
  • Every rack counts — even in a loss, every ball matters.

🎯 Game Play Basics

  • Matches use International 8-Ball or WPA 10-Ball Rules depending on format
  • Lag to decide first break, alternate breaks after that
  • Legal break required (minimum balls passed/pocketed)
  • 6-Ball Shootout decides ties in qualifiers and finals (not normal league play)

🤝 Sportsmanship

  • Respect opponents, teammates, and officials
  • Only players in the match can call fouls
  • Scorekeeper/timekeeper must call time fouls
  • Misconduct (arguing, sharking, unsportsmanlike conduct) can lead to penalties or suspension
